'O wai la? Who am I?
Aloha e na haumana a me na makua! Welcome students and parents!
My name is Vanessa Souki, students call me Kumu Souki. I was born in Washington State but I grew up here on O'ahu. I am a 1999 graduate of Kalaheo High School. I went on to get my B.A. in Hawaiian Studies and my Masters of Education in Teaching Secondary Social Studies from the University of Hawai'i Manoa. I taught at Kalaheo from 2005-2008. I got a promotion to "Stay-at-home mom" when I had my three daughters. I returned to teaching 6 years ago, I have spent time in middle schools, both public and private during that time. An amazing coincidence brought me back to Kalaheo this year and I couldn't be more excited. Although I wish it was in better circumstances I am ready to HO'OMAU (persevere) with you and your 'ohana. We are in this together, but apart!
My family and I love to camp, hike, go to the beach, travel, peacefully protest, and watch the Seahawks win football games! We got a quarantine pet, Maka the dwarf/lionhead bunny.
